Mother Mary tells the story of Jo Cruz, a butch Puerto Rican lesbian taxi driver in 1968 Boston, who begins giving rides to Catholic schoolteacher Mary O’Sullivan; what starts with shared loneliness, faith, and colonial histories deepens into something beyond friendship as they embark on a transformative road trip for Mary’s lifesaving care.
