MEGAN SANDBERG-ZAKIAN
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Megan is a theater director, author, and facilitator with a passion for the development of vital new American plays for the stage and the ear. Favorite recent directing projects include Nat Turner in Jerusalem (New York Theatre Workshop), The High Ground (Arena Stage), House of Joy (California Shakespeare Theatre), Skeleton Crew (Huntington Theatre Company), and Audible Originals Rapture Season and Evil Eye (Audie Award for Best Original Work; Gracie Award for Original Online Programming). Her book, There Must Be Happy Endings: On a Theater of Optimism and Honesty is available from The 3rd Thing Press.
Before arriving at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, Megan was an Associate at the executive search firm ALJP, specializing in identifying diverse groups of candidates for arts leadership positions. She has also taught at Brown University, Yale University, and Northeastern University, served as Associate Artistic Director at The Providence Black Repertory Company, The 52nd Street Project, and Underground Railway Theatre, and as Director in Residence at Merrimack Repertory Theatre. She is a recipient of the Princess Grace Theater Award and the TCG Future Leaders fellowship, an alumna of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, and a proud member of SDC, the union for professional stage directors and choreographers. Megan is a graduate of Brown University and holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College. She lives in Jamaica Plain, MA, with her wife Candice.
DARREN EVANS
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Darren is a Boston-area director, artistic director, producer, designer, and administrator. He founded Theatre on Fire and served as Producing Artistic Director from 2005-2020. He has directed numerous IRNE and Elliot Norton nominated productions, including Mojo by Jez Butterworth, One for the Road by Harold Pinter, and Exit, Pursued by a Bear by Lauren Gunderson. He has directed and designed plays for Centastage, Fresh Ink Theatre, New Exhibition Room, Brown Box Theatre, as well as Suffolk and Northeastern Universities. He has directed for the Boston Theater Marathon well over a dozen times. He is a part-time faculty member in the graduate Arts Administration and Cultural Entrepreneurship program at Northeastern.
Darren is the chair of the Leadership Committee of the Boston Area Theatre Auditions and also helps administer the Boston United Theatre Resource Potluck Facebook page. He lives in Charlestown with his wife, Brooke, and cat, Fish.
